Mission Statement

The BOMA Fund works to improve the lives of the marginalized residents of northern Kenya through economic empowerment, education, advocacy and the training of a new generation of entrepreneurial ethical leaders.

Description

The BOMA Project is a registered Kenyan NGO and U.S. nonprofit with a proven track record, measurable results and an innovative approach to livelihood diversification and climate-change adaptation in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of Northern Kenya. Our Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) is a two-year poverty-graduation program that provides seed capital, sustained business skills and savings training, and hands-on mentoring by local BOMA Village Mentors to business groups of three women. With a new and diversified income that complements the drought-threatened livestock industry but is not tied to it, mothers can feed their children, pay for school fees and medical care, and accumulate savings that help families survive shock, cope with emergencies and achieve long-term resiliency. To date, we have launched 1,380 small businesses across Northern Kenya, giving 4,668 women the tools and resources they need to support more than 23,300 children.
