Mission Statement

NOCCS' mission is to establish a caring, educationally challenging, standards-based learning environment that respects the natural intelligence and curiosity that children bring to their learning. NOCCS was founded on the belief that any child's intellectual and social growth can be developed through practice and effort. Our curriculum reflects an emphasis on student-driven inquiry, project-based learning, and inclusion of social and emotional learning alongside traditional academic subjects.

Description

The North Oakland Community Charter School is a public elementary school. We opened our doors in September 2000 as a Kindergarten-First Grade school. The school is the vision of a group of parents who committed years of planning to creating a challenging, rewarding, and inspiring education for students. A charter school is a public school that is open to all school-aged children. The school is cost-free for students, and like other Oakland public schools, our school is accountable to parents and the Oakland Unified School District.

Our educational focus is on Early Literacy, Teaching for Understanding, high expectations and a caring community of learners.
