Mission Statement

The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1980 as a not-for-profit arts organization to present high quality performances and programs of symphonic music, using both professional and non-professional musicians, in an innovative presentation format that increases listeners appreciation of the historical, cultural and emotional significance of the music and, therefore, the relevance of music in their lives.

Description

We currently present five subscription concerts per season at a 1,500 seat theater in Northbrook, IL. We play to near-capacity audiences of season subscribers and single ticket purchasers. We were selected as the 2006 Community Orchestra of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras. Lawrence Rapchak has been music director and conductor since the 2001-02 season. We conduct outreach programming for school children and children with special needs, senior groups, nursing homes and Alzheimer's and other healthcare facilities. We also provide chamber music ensembles for local charitable groups, library and village events. Audience members and orchestra personnel hail from more than 49 different suburbs and communities as well as the city of Chicago.
