Description

Common Ground Relief ( www.commongroundrelief.org ), a New Orleans based radical relief effort, has recently initiated a Wetlands Restoration program created to proactively address the dangers faced by New Orleans and the Gulf Coast from the ongoing destruction of wetlands. Common Ground will be working to add an ecological and environmental justice analysis to causes and effects of hurricane devastation.

Katrina and Rita hit home a message: ignoring environmental problems has lethal consequences. Our goal is to shed light on where wetlands restoration needs to happen, help determine who should be responsible for doing it, and then to do it ourselves where ever possible, while raising nation-wide awareness of the collapse of the Mississippi Delta. Our action will be in a context of cooperation and respect for the long standing work of the many wetlands groups throughout the Gulf region, and most importantly in solidarity and consideration of the people of the Gulf Coast. Conservation with compassion.
