Description

The Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support works to ensure that all families are healthy and that they fully share in the social and economic opportunities of the City of Minneapolis. The Department serves residents by working in partnership with community organizations, other units of government, schools, and health and human service agencies. To address the needs of City residents, the Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support provides a broad range of services in four key areas, through direct services and through contracts and partnerships with community organizations:

  • Neighborhood Services: providing valuable direct services through community initiatives that address such issues as domestic violence, welfare-to- work policy initiatives, housing, and senior advocacy.
  • Public Health Initiatives: assuring and improving public health of adults and youth through the school-based clinics program and in the areas of infant mortality, health care access and student health and well-being.
  • Research: providing quality research for policymakers, community organizations and civic leaders on such health concerns as sexually transmitted infections, child health, teenage pregnancy, and alcohol use by adolescents.
  • Policy and Advocacy: advocating for policy changes and initiatives that will benefit the citizens of Minneapolis based on research and needs identified by the community.
