Mission Statement

The mission of Truth in Reality is to change the imbalanced media depictions of women of color. Through education, research, public awareness campaigns, social media engagement, strategic partnerships, and public commentary we aim to change society's acceptance of gender-based violence and ultimately reduce its incidence in the Black community.

Description

Truth In Reality is a volunteer based, cross-cultural association of women and men, dedicated to changing the media representations of women of color and reducing the use of violent stereotypes as entertainment.

It is our belief that if we can effect change on a micro level (such as in the violent media portrayals of Black women on reality television), eventually this will create a shift in in our imagery overall in media and create greater opportunities for Black women's economic and social advancement.
