Mission Statement

Marcavalle is a youth detention and rehabilitation center for boys 12-18 yrs of age, aimed at reintegrating them back into society as productive, educated, reformed citizens.

In a country with 54% poverty, there are not many opportunities for young people and many turn to the streets to meet their basic needs and those of their families. The center aims to educate the boys about their infractions as well as provide them with career opportunities upon their release.

Description

Marcavalle provides primary and secondary education as well as labor training (carpentry, farming/agriculture, shoe-making, sewing, cooking, etc). The center uses a special hierarchical, gradual education program combined with counseling and various forms of therapy, emphasizing self-respect and reasoning, to help educate the boys about their infractions and reform them in a permanent manner.

In the final phase of the program, the center helps place the boys that have completed secondary education in jobs in their respective fields.
