The Muir Heritage Land Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of undeveloped lands in Contra Costa County through purchase of land, conservation easements and the stewardship of open space lands for biodiversity and habitat protection.
We believe that the vitality of our open spaces is essential to the health of our earth, air, water and our native plants and animals - and all of us. Our goal is to ensure that the beauty, diversity and fullness of our wild lands continue to enrich and sustain all generations of life.
We acquire, protect and steward these diminishing lands, and we foster environmental awareness so that each person understands the need to preserve our natureal heritage. We work for a healthful future, one where wild lands and all who depend on them will flourish.
The Muir Heritage Land Trust was founded in 1989 by a diverse group of citizens concerned with preserving their community's natural resources. The Land Trust works to preserve open space in Contra Costa County through purchase of land, conservation easements, the stewardship of open space lands for biodiversity and habitat protection, and the promotion of public awareness of land use matters and the value of open space within the region. The Land Trust strives to protect wetlands and wildlife habitat, preserve natural scenery and riparian corridors and provide trail corridors for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The pressures to eliminate open space from our communities is great, and preserving key lands over the next few years is crucial.
