Mission Statement

To promote and encourage bicycling as an energy efficient, non-polluting, healthy, and enjoyable transportation alternative within the City and County of Denver.

Description

BikeDenver is a 501(c)3 non-profit serving the Denver Metro area in advocating safer, better bicycling, and providing free valet bike parking at major downtown events, including The People's Fair, VeloSwap, and Taste of Colorado. By providing free bike parking, we are encouraging alternate ways to travel to events in Denver, and helping to alleviate congestion, pollution and dependence on oil. This year we are expanding our parking services to include the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, July 4th weekend, where we will supplement with one parking corral in addition to the one provided by the Cherry Creek Bike Rack. We are entirely volunteer-run, and our organization's income currently depends on tips and donations generated from our bike parking services. We are working on more ways to accept monies, including donations via a contact page on our website, and looking into economical ways to offer t-shirts and bicycling maps. This year, BikeDenver has also won the bid to host a national training in July, given by the Thunderhead Alliance, which will further organizational development by showing attendees how to design a winnable campaign that fosters better, safer bicycling and walking access for their communities (an urgent concern for BikeDenver is how to improve bike/ped access to light rail/bus facilities along the new T-rex corridor). We need vounteer help in these two major areas--bicycle parking and hosting the training--and look forward to establishing a win-win relationship with VolunteerMatch.
