Description

A visionary construct of education, collaboration and community, the Lafayette Library and Learning Center (LLLC), home of the Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium, is a place where all generations can gather for enriched intellectual and cultural experiences. The Lafayette Library and Learning Center is one of 26 community libraries in the Contra Costa County Library system.

Last year the library welcomed approximately 15,163 visitors each month and that number continues to grow. In-Library help: In 2012, 72 volunteers donated 2,662 hours to keep the library running.

Thanks to the LLLC Foundation, Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium, Friends of the LLLC, and Contra Costa County Library 23,000 people attended 733 programs in 2011-2012.

Adult programs span health, art, theater, music, performances, and more. Children’s programs include English and Spanish story times, international crafts, sustainable gardening projects, rocket building and design, origami, Lindsay Wildlife Museum live animals, and NASA experiments. Young Adults find fun and opportuntities in the new Teen Advisory Board, college preparation workshops, film and game nights, zombie events, tutoring and more.

Author events and fundraisers included Dave Eggers, Mark Halperin, Jon Lescroart, Joyce Maynard, Anita Amirrezvani, Peggy Orenstein, Kelly Corrigan and more.
