Mission Statement

The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund is the a Florida based, non profit organization that raises funds and provides logistical support for Ak'Tenamit.

AAT’s mission is to promote long-term solutions to poverty in the rainforests of eastern Guatemala through education, health, income-generation and cultural programs. AAT is run by and for Q’eqchi Maya Indians. Its vision is to elevate the standard of living of indigenous villages maintaining their cultural identity and promoting values of gender equality and social inclusion.

Description

The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund is dedicated to raising funds to support Ak'Tenamit, administer the Child Sponsorhip program and provide oversight and logistical support for the management of these funds. This is achieved through direct mailings, Child Sponsorship and personal presentations of the project.

Ak’Tenamit, (New Village in the Mayan Dialect of Q’eqchi) is a project located in the eastern rain forest of Guatemala. Its boarding school for middle and high school students currently has 440 students enrolled. The internationally recognized, rural-appropriate curriculum is specific for the needs of this area. Boys and girls graduate with high school degrees in Sustainable Tourism or Community Development. Before graduatingthey complete 3000 hours of internships giving them the skills and experience needed to be able to find work as soon as they graduate. AAT also runs a medical and dental clinic at the school site for students and the surrounding villages. Educate the Girls, income-generation, gender equality, environment and cultural preservation are other programs with the Ak'Tenamit organization.
