Mission Statement
The Women's Prison Book Project is an all-volunteer organization that provides free books to women, trans, and nonbinary people in prison around the U.S. We recognize that the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world, that women are the fastest growing prison population, and that women of color are disproportionately represented in the prison system. We attempt to raise awareness of these issues, and create a way for women on the outside to provide support for women in the inside.
Description
The Women's Prison Book Project is a group of volunteers organizing to provide women in prison with free reading materials covering a wide range of topics. We meet every Sunday to sort book donations and package books for women in prison. We also hold educational events through out the year, are available for speaking engagements, and have various fundraisers to pay for postage costs.
If you're interested in volunteering with us, please send us an email! We'll get you added to our list.
