The mission of Andy's Safe Haven is to move dogs who are scheduled to die in high-kill shelters to the safety of a temporary refuge. Getting them out of harm's wa y buys them time for rescue, foster or adoption arrangements to be made.
People in animal rescue understand the importance of time.
W hen a dog enters a high-kill shelter the clock starts ticking down the hours until his death. Overwhelmed by the sheer number of pets surrendered by owners or picked up as strays, these shelters can only give each animal a limited amount of time. If a new home or rescue is not arranged, this loving creature is put to death.
Sometimes with just hours remaining, rescues are contacted to save the animal’s life. In turn, the rescues reach out to their foster families to see if the dog can be placed with someone. Often there is just not enough time to make the arrangements before it is too late.
There is where Andy’s Safe Haven (ASH) steps in to help. Working with local boarding facilities, we arrange for temporary refuge for these adoptable dogs until suitable foster or permanent homes can be found.
