Mission Statement

The mission of Candlestick House & Engagement Center is to encourage and support the individual to sustain a fulfilling life in community and overcome the barriers that hinder life recovery. CHEC utilizes an asset-based, holistic approach and is a caring and supportive environment for individuals to address spiritual, intellectual, mental, emotional and physical concerns to many of life’s hindering issues.

In carrying out our mission, CHEC will help reduce the stigma associated with having a criminal record or being in long-term recovery from addiction through education, personal experience & community engagement.

Description

We have two largely independent priorities in support of our mission:

  • Operate a re-entry & recovery Engagement Center for Marion County, serving as an asset-based community resource center. We connect area neighbors with each other and local services, helping them to lead healthy, fulfilling lives in community. While our emphasis is on homecomers (ex-offenders) and people recovering from addiction, we recognize we all need encouragement to overcome any challenges we may face.
  • Provide transitional living House for homecomers (ex-offenders) after their release from incarceration, focusing on women and/or mothers living with children under 5 years of age, supporting their efforts to be restored to a fulfilling life in the community.
