First Book works with existing local literacy programs to distribute new books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books.

T he First Book model depends upon local volunteer involvement. First Book Advisory Boards are comprised of community members from all sectors of the community. We seek diversity.

First Book Advisory Boards select literacy programs serving children from low-income families, and provide books or funds to purchase books. Many of these programs would not be able to continue their literacy efforts without our support.

Established in late 2003, First Book - Greater Minneapolis/St. Paul is working hard to bring the magic of books to the seven county metro area and has already distributed over 360,000 books valued at over $3,000,000.
