Mission Statement
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports serves as a catalyst to promote health, physical activity, fitness, and enjoyment for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through participation in physical activity and sports.
Description
The Council is comprised of 20 volunteer members who are appointed by the president. The Council recommends programs to the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services which will encourage nationwide participation in physical fitness, physical activity and sports activities. In making these recommendations, the Council seeks to enhance State, local, and private physical activity programs while stimulating and strengthening fitness opportunities in the public sector. One of the ways in which the Council does this is through the President's Challenge physical activity and fitness awards program.
