Mission Statement

The Hudson Valley Developmental Disabilities Service Office is responsible for the coordination and delivery of services to families in Sullivan, Orange, Westchester and Rockland Counties. The office provides, promotes and assures that needed services are available to people affected by developmental disabilities, so consumers may achieve increasing levels of independence, productivity and integration in the community.

Description

We serve a number of individuals who live in residential settings throughout out the community unfortunately many of whom do not have family members in their lives. I am attempting to seek volunteers that would act as a pseudo-family. The volunteer would advocate as a family member would for the individuals with development disabilities. As an advocate the expectation would be for them to work with a service coordinator in the planning and development of a service plan. The volunteer would attend meetings twice a year and may receive phone calls throughout the year from the service coordinator about the individual. If the volunteer would like to become more involved in the individual's life then that would be up to him/her. There is no financial obligation and there will be no responsibility to make any medical decisions. If interested or more information is desired, please contact Michelle Quinn, MSC Supervisor at 845-344-6554.
