Breakfast Bag sponsors needed for medical Guest House

Breakfast Bag sponsors are needed for "to go" items like packaged fruit cups, baked goods, granola bars, juice bottles and small cereal boxes. Consider dropping off some items on your way to work. We have a Drive-thru & Drop off option! Or have your service group assemble breakfast or snack bags for our guests to take for the day, as they head off to the hospital to be with their loved one or to receive their outpatient treatments. Are you part of a company or restaurant who would be able to sponsor a breakfast? Group Commitment: 1x per quarter or per year, food supplies enough to serve 10 - 40 people. Opportunity is available every Wednesday, anytime during the day, though we prefer before 4pm. We are able to receive drop-off items any weekday with prior arrangements. We are now scheduling Breakfast Sponsors to help support our weekly Breakfast Bags during the months of mid-February, March & April. Guest House Meal Maker -Dinners for medical guests & veterans

Groups are needed to make or cater a warm meal for our guests at Guest House. Some medical or veteran guests may join us for conversation and dinner in our Community Room, others will choose the pick-up option. Those staying with us often spend long days in the hospital with their loved one or have outpatient treatments. A dinner they don't have to make themselves feeds their stomachs as well as their weary souls. We have a kitchen stocked with cooking utensils, stove and a double oven. Volunteers need to arrive by 3:30 - 4:00pm if making the dinner onsite, and no later than 4:30pm with the catered meal. To-Go dinner bags are assembled by 5:00pm for pick-up between 5:30 - 6:00pm to guests. Sit-down dinner is at 6:00pm. After cleanup, you'll be finished by 7:30p. We have dinners for our guests regularly scheduled on *Thursday nights at Guest House and typically we need 45 - 50 meals. Menu suggestions for meals: Soup & Salad Nite, Beef Stew & Biscuits, Enchiladas, Mac & Cheese with Rotisserie Chicken - think Comfort Food. We're open to your menu ideas. It's a great opportunity to get your team together doing good. Please contact us if you're interested in sponsoring a meal and we will send you our Meal Maker Guidelines. Currently, we have Thursdays available from April through the end of the year! We are also wanting to start a regular Taco or Lasagna Tuesday, on the first Tuesday of the month. Bring your favorite taco dinner to our guests, they'd love it. We ask that all volunteers be healthy the day of your meal project, to protect our immune-compromised guests. We may ask you to wear a mask during meal prep and pick-up.

Associate Board Members needed for Guest House

The Guest House Associate Board (AB) is an energetic young professionals group who support a mission that provides comfort through temporary lodging to patients, families and veterans who must seek medical treatment away from home. Associate Board members are ambassadors in their community. Engaging with the mission through volunteer activity, fostering philanthropic connections, fundraising events, and inspiring others to see the impact and important need the Guest House provides. The Associate Board accepts candidates on a monthly basis. Founded in 1999, the Guest House meets the critical need for affordable accommodations for outpatients and loved ones of patients seeking treatment away from home. Providing the comforts of home and the care of community, we are conveniently located in the Illinois Medical District on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago giving our guests easy access to our partner hospitals: John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Rush University Medical Center, UI Health-Chicago and the University of Chicago Medical Center Hospitals.

This was such an easy and rewarding experience because it was just a couple of hours writing letters to families of patients and patients themselves who had once stayed at the IMD Guesthouse in the Illinois Medical District.
