Mission Statement
The Community Action Program of Lancaster County champions the achievement of long-term self sufficiency for individuals and families through services and advocacy targeting the elimination of poverty.
Description
Atlas supports motivated, low-income individuals and families as they work to achieve financial stability and achieve goals such as home ownership, higher education, skills training and higher paying employment.
The Atlas Initiative helps participants identify the resources they have and the goals they want to establish, learn how to get involved in their communities, and build beneficial relationships with others.
Our main volunteer oppurtunities are: (1) Ally-be an intentional friend to an individual or family experiencing poverty. Allies commit to 5 hours a month for 18 months. (2) Help out with childcare. Atlas provides free childcare at our group meetings Monday and Thursday nights in Lancaster City and Columbia Borough. (3) Donate/prep a meal! Atlas also provides free meals at our meetings to eliminate barriers those in poverty experience. We ask volunteers to prepare an entree and simple side for 50 individuals in Lancaster City or Columbia Borough.
