Description

The Believe in Books Literacy Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, and supported by hundreds of dedicated volunteers from the communities that we serve. The net proceeds of our events and merchandise sales are designed to go towards our Literacy Foundation and programs. As a result of 14 years of fund-raising efforts, the Literacy Foundation has given over $500,000 of value through literacy programs, scholarships, grants and book distributions in Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine.

The most noteworthy programs to date are the Bookbag Program, the "Books in Character" Outreach Reading Program, "Books from Birth" Program and scholarships and grants. We've also partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Literacy Volunteers of America and First Book, along with local efforts.

The Foundation's most notable fund-raising event to date is The Polar Express Event, operating during December of each year, now in two locations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This event involves over 1,200 wonderful volunteers annually, with tasks and operations continuing throughout the year behind the scenes. The Polar Express Event first began in 1995 and has continued it's growth and popularity, serving as a role model throughout the country. This event has brought thousands of visitors to the region over the years and continues to be the greatest economic contributor to the region from a single non-profit event.
