Mission Statement

Mission Statement We are a team of professionals striving to prepare our patients and families for the end-of-life experience. We support the patient, family, and friends in facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness by offering physical, emotional, and spiritual support and comfort. At the heart of our excellent service is the profound respect for the patient’s wishes.

*Rewarding Volunteer Opportunity*

Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity? Being a companion to a hospice patient does not require any special experience or education, only the desire to be a friend to someone in need and the ability to be compassionate and understanding. Patient companions can perform a range of duties, from simply sitting and talking with a patient to helping them with light chores such as putting groceries away or sweeping. You will be trained and supported throughout the volunteer experience and given the tools and resources you need to be a compassionate and caring friend to a patient in need.

I started volunteering with Serenity back in 2009. I worked alongside the bereavement coordinator and gained so much experience. (I was, at the time, working towards my B.A. in Psychology). I decided to start volunteering with one of their patients as well. They placed me close to my home so commuting wasn't an issue. The experience has changed my life. I've learned so much from the patient I spend time with and wouldn't trade it for anything. Serenity is a wonderful organization to volunteer for and I hope others take the opportunity to give back to the community while also getting so much from the experience in return.
