Mission Statement

One Spirit is a Native American service program founded to assist Native American families and children who live in extreme poverty situations on Reservations. Our present programs (child and elder sponsorship, Fuel and wood projects, Food Co-op, The Buffalo Children Youth Program, and the Lakota Art Market) are focused on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Our mission is to help meet basic needs while supporting the initiatives of the Lakota people to preserve and revitalize the Lakota culture, language, and self-sufficiency.


OneSpirit is a virtual organization that is managed by volunteer staff from their homes across the US. We work in collaboration with the Natives on PIne Ridge. Programs: OneSpirit presently sponsors over 500 children and more than 100 elders on Pine Ridge. We have a waiting list of more than 1100 children and elders. The Food Co-op provides food to over 1000 Lakota people per month. The youth program supports year round programs focused on provide the youth exciting alternatives to drugs, gangs and alcohol. The wood for heat program delivers over 100 cords of wood yearly, provides work where the unemployment rate is 90% and ensures that blizzards, frequent visitors to the reservation, will not leave people without heat. The Okini Program meets the urgent needs of families and elders across the reservation. Our goal is to assist the Native Americans with programs needed by their people and that preserve the Native culture, language, and self-sufficiency.
