Christmas in Action of Oakland County, Inc.

As people live longer there is a tremendous number of low-income and handicapped seniors eager to age in thier own homes. One in four elderly Americans today are "shelter-poor" meaning they cannot afford basic human necessities after paying housing, medical and heating and food costs. Each year Christmas in Action volunteers complete the FREE home repairs allowing these seniors to remain safely in their homes. Volunteers from all walks of life come together to install new roofs, furnaces, update faulty electrical, build handicap ramps, paint interior and exterior of homes and complete yard clean-ups. All at no cost to the low-income, handicapped senior homeowner. The impact of Christmas in Action is immeasurable, neighborhoods are improved and unnecessary and costly institutionalizations are avoided. Christmas in Action was summed up by Nellie an 80 year old widow and handicapped receipient, "This is Love in Action" Unfortunately, we all live in communities that share the same problem, but together as partners we can be part of the solution.
