The mission of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating and preventing the disease.
JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
Dedicated to Finding a Cure
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
Accelerating Our Mission
JDRF is the leading global organization, and largest charitable supporter, focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. We have awarded more than $1.6 billion to research and maintained a high rate of fundraising efficiency--more than 80 percent of our expenditures directly support T1D research and research-related education.
A Backbone of Dedicated and Active Volunteers
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes. As a result, JDRF volunteers have a personal connection to type 1 diabetes, which translates into an unrelenting commitment to finding a cure. These volunteers are the driving force behind more than 100 locations worldwide that raise money and advocate for government spending for type 1 diabetes research.
