Would you recommend ElderHelp?
ElderHelp responded quickly to my request to volunteer making cards for seniors and was helpful with my follow-up questions as well.
I have been an ElderHelp volunteer for 15 years. I have done everything from making phone calls to make sure the senior is OK, to installing grab bars and handrails, to building a ramp for a senior's dog that had gone blind. I find my contributions to ElderHelp to be extremely satisfying because the staff there is so professional, personable and knowledgeable, and the seniors that we serve are SO appreciative of the things that we are able to do for them that they may not be able to do for themselves. Additionally, all of the other volunteers that I have met share the common trait of a willingness to give a part of themselves for the good of others. Volunteering at ElderHelp has been, and continues to be a very important part of my life.
What better karma is there than brightening the life of a Senior citizen?
For over three years I've volunteered for ElderHelp as a friendly visitor, grocery shopper, and I've even helped fix VCRs and TVs.
My current senior friend is a kind, funny 84 year old woman who lives nearby. We share meals, she shares recipes and stories about what my hometown (and hers) was like in the 1930s. It's an absolute pleasure to work with her and ElderHelp goes out of their way to ensure successful, long-term matches between Senior and volunteer.
ElderHelp is a resource like no other here in San Diego--providing friendship, company and vital services to keep Seniors living independently. Additionally, they're an incredible source of support if you ever find yourself needing support with seniors in your life.
