PVSchools is the first school district in Arizona with a program certified by Points of Light. We provide you with training to be an effective and confident VIP tutor. By giving just a couple of hours a week (either in person or online) you will meet new friends while working alongside other outstanding volunteers and you will team with our amazing teachers to help our students experience success. As a VIP you will provide academic assistance to children in grades K-6 during the regular school day after school or during the summer. You receive the training and support to become an effective, confident in-person or virtual tutor and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. The mission of the Volunteer In Paradise program is to raise student achievement; the data shows that we are fulfilling our mission. Students who received tutoring from our VIPs showed much greater academic growth than non-tutored students. These results are just one reason the program has been certified by Points of Light in June of 2021 as a Service Enterprise, received a Golden Bell Award from the Arizona School Boards Association in 2017 and a First Place Magna Award from the National School Board Association in 2015. You, too, can make a difference by giving as little as one hour per week to tutor and to serve as a caring role model. You will provide valuable assistance to our teachers and become part of a school community. Support and training for volunteers is ongoing. Join our award winning Volunteer In Paradise (VIP) program recently certified by Points of Light as a Service Enterprise, recognized by the Arizona School Boards Association with the Golden Bell Award in 2017 and the National School Boards Association with a First Place Magna Award in 2015. Community members are invited to become VIPs and provide academic assistance and mentoring to students in kindergarten to sixth grade. Children throughout the large and diverse Paradise Valley Unified School District are in need of additional support. Work 1:1 or with small groups of students in math and/or reading. VIP volunteers provide one-on-one and small group in-person and virtual instruction to children in grades K-8 during the school day, after school, and during the summer.
