Meals on Wheels San Diego County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that delivers nutritious meals and moments of human connection to homebound seniors in San Diego County. Our mission is to support the independence and well-being of seniors.
Meals on Wheels San Diego County is dedicated to helping seniors remain independent and in their own homes as long as possible. We do this by delivering meals to seniors in need of nutritional support. Home-delivered meals are vital to the overall well-being of seniors who are unable to adequately meet their own nutritional needs. For seniors, well-being means not only maintaining physical health through good nutrition, but also nourishing emotional and spiritual health through contact with kind and caring volunteers and the ability to stay in their homes. Seniors want to age in place and that place is their home. Meals-on-Wheels is committed to helping them do that. We are concerned with the maintaining the well-being and dignity of every senior we serve.
For the most part, the staff was very nice and helpful. Ali was friendly and instructive so that the volunteers always felt as if they were doing something beneficial. I forgot the name of the girl, but the intern was also super friendly and easy to talk to. The only complaint I have was with one guy who was on the staff; he had a bad attitude towards the volunteers at one point of the event when registration wasn't running smoothly, even though it was one of the volunteers (not myself) who was actually doing something productive to organize the chaos. It was particularly irritating, because we were definitely doing what we should have been doing and I don't believe that you should treat people who voluntarily help you out like trash. He could've handled that better, but he seemed nice when things were running well.
I am an intern for the company and I've had so much fun. They offer multiple volunteer opportunities. Whether its working in the office or out doing routes. They really work with your schedule and they are super friendly.
