Mission Statement

The Toledo Symphony exists to sustain a working community of musical artists in our area who perpetuate the experience of superb musical performances and continuous musical education for all people.

Description

Formed in 1943 as The Friends of Music and incorporated in 1951 as the Toledo Orchestra Association, Inc., the Toledo Symphony has grown from a core group of twenty-two part-time musicians to a regional orchestra that employs nearly eighty professional musicians who consider the Toledo Symphony their primary employer, as well as numerous extra players annually as repertoire demands.

The Toledo Symphony is a 501c(3) non-profit organization governed by a board of trustees representing a cross section of community and business interests for the region.

Each season, the Toledo Symphony produces over 400 performances, including Classics, Pops, Peristyle Visiting Artist, Artist Up Close, Chamber and Mozart & More Series performances. The TSO will continue to present its Family Matinee Series, introduced in 2004, at the Toledo Museum of Art, an offering of concerts geared directly toward children and families of Greater Toledo. The Toledo Symphony maintains creative partnerships with the Toledo Opera Association, the Toledo Ballet, the Masterworks Chorale and music programs at University of Findlay, Bowling Green State University, the University of Toledo and Goshen College in Indiana. The series concerts are the critical underpinning of the orchestra's artistic mission, yet they represent less than thirty percent of the performance activities. Our concerts throughout the region, educational initiatives and other community-focused services make up the balance.

In the 2005/2006 season, the Toledo Symphony will bring music to 15 communities in Northwest Ohio and Southern Michigan, such as Bryan, Findlay, Archbold and Monroe. The TSO will also perform in 12 Toledo-area churches, including Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Cedar Creek Church and Epworth United Methodist Church.
