Compassus Hospice is seeking friendly, well-mannered, registered therapeutic pets, to join our team. Together with their compassionate handler, willing to bring peace and comfort to our hospice patients. Volunteers are a vital component of the hospice team and greatly appreciated for the companionship and supportive presence that they provide to our patients at the end of their lives. We have home patients as well as patients in assisted living facilities and group homes. The volunteer opportunity is flexible and based on your availability and the needs of the patient.

Veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each veteran patient, allowing them to become an essential piece in the delivery of quality end-of-life care. Compassus Hospice is a partner in the We Honor Veterans program of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). Veterans have a unique perspective gained from their military experience, and as such, they are able to provide understanding and comradery to our veteran patients. Our veteran volunteer team can also be utilized on an "as needed" basis to assist with a variety of veteran specific activities. Veteran specific activities include (but not limited to) Assist veterans in reminiscing/telling life stories Provide companionship to a veteran patient Educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits Improve communication in families Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veteran's Day and other recognition events Assist in replacing lost medals Participating in community education activities regarding veteran topics Veteran volunteers can bring the missing piece of forgotten comradery back into the patient's life.

A few hours of your time can make a difference to a lonely patient! Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care is looking for volunteers to provide in-home visits to hospice patients, or administrative support in our Portage office. Your caring presence allows family members the chance to run errands, keep appointments, or lonely patients to have visits from a new friend. Our program provides training to volunteers and offers ongoing education, recognition and support. Hours are flexible!
