Mission Statement

Peace Brigades International works to create a space for peace in which conflicts can be addressed in a nonviolent way.

PBI applies a strategy of international protective presence, that supports local initiatives and contributes to developing a culture of peace and justice.
We act on the request of local organizations and groups working for human rights and social change. Those groups must be using nonviolent means to confront conflict and repression in their countries.

Description

We envision a world in which people address conflicts nonviolently, where human rights are universally upheld, and social justice and intercultural respect have become a reality. We believe that lasting solutions to conflict cannot be imposed from the outside, but must be based on the capacity and desires of local people. We have been conducting nonviolent activism and defending human rights in conflict zones throughout the world since 1981.
