St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization. Various fundraising events are also held in South Florida.
More than forty years ago, Danny Thomas founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on the belief that, "no child should die in the dawn of life." Today, St. Jude is the crown jewel of pediatric healthcare in America and around the world. To accomplish his incredible dream, Danny Thomas worked diligently to raise funds by bringing people together to achieve one common goal: to save the lives of children.
