Galveston County Historical Museum's mission is to further the knowledge of, and foster an appreciation for, the history and heritage of Galveston County. Galveston Historical Foundation's mission (parent organization) is to preserve and revitalize the architectural, cultural and maritime heritage of Galveston Island for the education and enrichment of all.

Description

The Galveston County Historical Museum is a general history museum for Galveston County, Texas, a diverse region south of Houston. The museum opened to the public in 1976 and has operated under the management of Galveston Historical Foundation since 1984. Permanent collections n umber approximately 10,000, with textiles, costumes, photographs, objects, and paper archives related to the county. Research areas include: 1900 Storm, Texas City Disaster, Galveston County Historical Commission Reference Library, State Historical Marker Files for Galveston County, general Galveston County history.
