Mission Statement

The mission of Mentoring Matters in South Philly is to promote self-sufficiency through trusting relationships, understanding, and cooperation. We pair caring adults wishing to volunteer as mentors to at risk youth ages 4-18.Mentors participate in the life of the child, working with the parent to build a strong foundation of self-reliance, a network of community relationships, and a desire to succeed in the future.

Description

Mentors and mentees meet for at least one hour a week over the course of a year at various community locations. We work to match community mentors with youth, and to support that match through regular group activities such as sporting events, trips to museums, dinners, and chess and scrabble during our after school session. Our case managers provide regular support and insight to the mentors and mentees.
