Mission Statement

The Student Program for Academic and Athletic Transitioning (SPAAT) is a non-profit organization that empowers socially and economically disadvantaged high school student athletes by providing with academic, community and athletic support services in an effort to increase the number of students entering post-secondary institutions.
Our vision is to ensure that every student-athlete is equipped with the skills needed to transition and achieve success at any post-secondary institution.

Description

SPAAT is a program that equips every student-athlete with the knowledge and skills required for a successful transition into the rigors and requirements of post-secondary education. Success for this organization and our shared vision begins with the well-advised formulation of contingency plans should we not succeed in our athletic pursuits. We must be prepared for a reality that lands us in a board room and not a practice field. The types of plans we talk about with our youths are strength based approaches built around an honest assessment of academic achievement and athletic skill. SPAAT understands that a majority of today?s youth envision themselves at the highest level of play and will use athletics to advance their families, friends, and themselves. However, they must know that if sports cannot do it, they themselves can! We invite you to play an integral role in this important stage of SPAAT?s development. Together we will build and maintain a philosophy that not only opens essential and deserved doors for our students, but ultimately affects our communities and the young adults we send out into the world.
