Mission Statement
The Baltimore International Seafarers' Center provides hospitality, friendly visits, and rides, as well as pastoral care and advocacy if requested, to members of ships' crews who are docked in Baltimore. We do everything we can to help seafarers from around the world feel welcome and to help them connect with their families.
Description
We are a 510(c)(3) housed in a building just outside Fort McHenry. Although the Director is an Episcopal priest, the dozen or so volunteers as well as the Board members represent several faith traditions. These volunteers as well as the Director drive in Seafarers' Center vans to terminals around the Baltimore area, where we offer conversation, phone cards, free magazines, and rides. Some seafarers are also able to visit our Center for relaxation and internet access. The Director or interested volunteers will provide pastoral care or church schedules on request, or will refer to other faith traditions on request; we do not proselytize.
