Mission Statement

The Allen Temple AIDS Ministry is a standing outreach ministry of Allen Temple Baptist Church, located in Oakland CA. In 1987 the Allen Temple AIDS Ministry was founded under the leadership of Chris Morton. Since 1995, Gloria Cox Crowell & Dr. Robert Scott have co-chaired the AIDS Ministry. The members of the AIDS Ministry have been active in the efforts to educate the African American community about the AIDS epidemic. In 1999 and 2000, the AIDS Ministry increased its reach globally. The Ministry adopted an Orphanage in rural Zimbabwe. The Mother of Peace Community is located outside of the capitol city of Harare, and houses over 150 children who are living with HIV, or who have been orphaned by parents who died of AIDS.

Given this, the mission of the AIDS Ministry is to continue the diligent work that confronts the African American community with regard to HIV/AIDS. This includes sharing God?s love with understanding, hope and healing. We seek to bring compassionate and supportive resources to affected individuals and families throughout the congregation and community.
