Mission Statement
Willow Glen students will soon be receiving extra educational support to succeed. In March, Willow Glen High School (followed by the Middle School in Fall 2006) is implementing a highly successful, one-on-one academic tutoring program that matches students with business and community volunteer mentors. The High School is making a broad appeal for volunteers to mentor and tutor the students.
Community volunteers will have a first hand opportunity to accelerate student learning. The program, Helping One Student To Succeed (HOSTS), targets students who need assistance in language arts. With the support of a volunteer mentor, HOSTS? helps children who are school now. With HOSTS, students have a better chance to succeed after graduation and the program helps keep students in school who are at risk of dropping out.Description
Under the program, each student meets for one hour, two times a week with a mentor (or mentors). The mentor helps the student complete an individualized lesson. The lessons are created by a teacher and address each student?s specific learning needs and are aligned to state, district, and school academic requirements. Mentors serve as role models who motivate, support, and provide individual attention to students.
