Description
The Gang Risk Intervention Program (GRIP) cluster is located on Woodrow Wilson High School, El Sereno Middle School and most recently Farmdale Elementary campuses of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Under the umbrella of Healthy Start, GRIP acts as a deterrent to gangs and violence by providing positive alternative opportunities and informative resources for youth and the community. The goal of the GRIP is to reduce the probability with youth involvement in gang activities and consequent violence. GRIP provides alternatives such as; counseling, mentoring, case management, community service, and field trips. GRIP incorporates service- learning in all components of the program by combining academic education with real life experiences in community settings. GRIP works in collaboration with community businesses, agencies, organizations, political leaders and residents in order to achieve positive change.
