The role of a vigil volunteer is to be with hospice patients in the last hours of their lives. Tasks may include reading a comforting poem or prayer, listening to soothing music, or just sitting quietly holding the patient's hand. Being present with the patient is the main job at this time. The vigil volunteer will complete 2 additional hours of specialized training above the visit volunteer training (14 hours) for a total of 16 hours. The training will focus on what to expect in the last hours of living and cultural differences related to dying.

Office volunteers help support our staff by handling the business end of caring. Volunteers help with administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, copying, mailings, special projects and events and other tasks. We also seek assistance answering phones and/or calling our patients and families to follow up on services and needs. You can volunteer for occasional projects or work a regular weekly schedule.
