Mission Statement

The mission of Steppin' Out is to provided identified children (based on Tabor Act income critia & the McKinney Fund definition for homeless children) with a basic set of new clothing, prior to the start of the academic year. Our mission is to remove one of the roadblocks poverty creates for children with respect to education. This increases their dignity and confidence in themselves.

Description

Steppin' Out dresses impoverished children w/ a basic wardrobe of new clothes - underwear, socks, winter coat, jeans, sweater, shoes, dress (girls), khakis & shirt (boys) - all enclosed in a personal storage container. By frugual shopping throughout the year, the cost per child has been less than $100. The children register with a CSOK community partner. Based on the parents' requested sizes, each child receives a personally tailored wardrobe.

Containers are distributed the week prior to the first day of school via the community partners. In so doing, Steppin' Out ensures that each child has new clothes to begin the school year. We believe education is the key to breaking a cycle of poverty. New, contemporary clothes give kids confidence to continue attending school.
