Mission Statement

The mission of RSVP:

RSVP has the dual purpose of engaging persons 55+ and older in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteers.

RSVP was established in 1971 under the ACTION program, and has been operating in San Angelo and Abilene for numerous years under the local sponsorship of the West Texas Rehab Center. Part of the Corporation for National Service (CNS), RSVP exists nationwide, in order to engage the skills and energy of persons 55+ years (you don't need to be retired) to volunteer in the community.

RSVP Volunteers receive a free newsletter packed with local information, and free personal and excess liability and accident insurance. The personal and excess liability coverage is provided during your assigned volunteer duties. Volunteers are also invited to seasonal recognition events and parties. RSVP is free to join and is a great way to connect with the life of the city.

How do we do this? We partner with 120+ non-profit agencies in the locality, by annual agreement, allowing RSVP, as an umbrella organization, to offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities and experiences to members.

Are you looking for a way to make a difference in San Angelo? Today, I met other volunteers at the Railway Museum. All of us, with computer savvy, continued a major project to scan thousands of train photos and negatives. Soon, these train photo archives will be made available for the public to purchase buy. These proceeds will aid the expenses (utilities) of the Railway Museum. I was glad to help and will return to do more for the preservation of this Historic site.
