Mission Statement

The mission of the Legacy Project is to inform, inspire, enlighten, and foster an appreciation for the crucial role GLBT people have played in the advancement of world
history and culture.

Description

The Legacy Project consists of three main components:

1) THE LEGACY WALK - the only
outdoor international museum walk in the world to celebrate the contributions GLBT people
have made;

2) www.legacyprojectchicago.org - a website portal containing the sum of all of our research and writing;

3) LPEI - a classroom-based adjunct called the Legacy Project Education Initiative (LPEI), specifically designed to focus on students and youth.

The Legacy Walk is dedicated to GLBT youth who are forced to grow up without historically significant role models - socially isolated, culturally marginalized, and vulnerable to
the despair and violence that spring from society’s continued ignorance. It is a very public challenge to anti-gay bullying.
