Mission Statement

UCF Walking School Bus partners with local communities to organize safe walking groups for schoolchildren led by trained adult mentors. Groups meet at least once a month to walk to school together along a designated route(s). Benefits include safer pedestrians, increased physical activity, and new friendships. Walking School Bus travel along a pre-planned route, typically no longer than two miles, picking up youth at different locations until they arrive safely at school. Groups can meet anywhere from one morning per month to twice daily depending on community needs.

Our program is currently operating at Brookshire Elementary (Winter Park), Eagles Nest Elementary (Orlando), Indian River Elementary (Edgewater), Lakemont Elementary (Winter Park), Lake Sybelia Elementary (Maitland), Millenia Elementary (Orlando),and Stevenson Elementary (Merritt Island) schools. We will soon begin programming at Fern Creek Elementary and Washington Shores Elementary (Orlando).
