Mission: "Watoto Wa Africa" is dedicated to improving the quality of life of orphans and street children in Tanzania by providing a safe environment to meet their basic needs and enrich their minds and spirits.
"Watoto Wa Africa" was founded in the year 2000 in Buswelu Village, of Mwanza region of Tanzania, by Josephat Kirutu and his wife Rosemary. This loving couple was faced with the drastic effects of HIV/AIDS, as they saw their friends becoming ill and passing away. As the number of children orphaned by AIDS increases daily, especially those living on the streets, they are at high risk for physical and sexual abuse, malnutrition, starvation, "Watoto Wa Africa" works to assist vulnerable children with a chance for a strong future in which they are provided with basic human rights, such as food, drinking water, shelter, clothing, protection, education, and most importantly, love. The full protection and development of children are the main goals at "Watoto Wa Africa", a chieved pr imar i l y through an orphanage program. Currently, 108 children between the ages of 1 and 17 years are supported at the orphanage. The orphanage is run by Josephat and Rosemary with assistance from "Kids Aid Tanzania," a UK based charity. The children live in a large compound that has two dormitories (one for girls and one for boys), a kitchen, a classroom, and a small h o u s e w h e r e Josephat’s family and three other families live to attend to the needs of the children.
