Mission Statement

The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals. We provide and protect the abandoned, abused, and unwanted animals in our community and attempt to find them loving homes. We are not animal control nor are we part of any national humane organization. The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is a not-for-profit organization. All of our operations, programs and services depend on the tireless efforts of staff members, volunteers, and the contributions of people and organizations who share our goal in creating a more responsible and humane community that benefits both people and animals. We believe that all life has the right to freedom from cruelty, abuse, exploitation and neglect, and is entitled to legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection. We believe that every animal has the right to be wanted, cherished, respected and protected, and deserves not to be born unless these rights can be guaranteed. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for non-human animals by preventing cruelty, relieving suffering, and advocating responsible and humane behavior through promoting public awareness as well as by providing programs and services that will:

  • provide a temporary home to homeless animals
  • protect animals from suffering, cruelty, abuse, exploitation, abandonment and neglect
  • through education, foster compassion, responsibility and respect toward all animals and the environment
  • reduce animal overpopulation by supporting/sponsoring spay/neuter programs
  • find permanent, loving homes for unwanted or homeless companion animals
  • nurture the human/animal bond, recognizing that it greatly

Description

The Humane Society of Southeast Texas was founded in 1962. It is a nonprofit charitable organization supported entirely by donations. It is dedicated to the promotion of animal welfare throughout Southeast Texas. Each week we admit homeless animals, abandoned animals and owner surrendered animals to our shelter. At any given time we provide shelter, food, love and medical care for over 100 dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. Throughout the course of a year over a thousand animals in need of a home come through our doors and we work tirelessly to match them with a caring, responsible, loving family who can provide them a forever home
