See Forever is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that supports the growth and development of the Maya Angelou Public Charter School.
Our Mission is to create learning communities in lower income urban areas where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential.
At Maya Angelou Public Charter School our students develop the academic, social, and employment skills that they need to build rewarding lives and promote positive change in their communities.
Our mission at Oak Hill Academy is to provide a safe, nurturing, and mutually respectful environment that motivates and prepares each student to fulfill his academic or career potential. With the support of a wide circle of caring adults, students will develop the skills they need to make sound decisions and lead rewarding lives.
Description
This summer, the See Forever Foundation assumed management of the school at Oak Hill, the District's long-term secure facility in Laurel, MD, for youth who have been adjudicated delinquent and committed to DYRS. We will also open an affiliated Transition Center in the city this fall.
At See Forever and the Maya Angelou Public Charter School, we have had success with court-involved youth, high school dropouts, and students with special needs, and we bring that experience and knowledge to Oak Hill. Over 80% of our graduates go on to college or postsecondary school, more than two times as many stay in college to earn a Bachelor's Degree, and overall 10% more earn a BA, AA, or certificate than their peers. We expect the Oak Hill project to help students achieve similarly lofty goals.
We at See Forever Foundation believe that continuing academic support beyond the traditional school schedule is critical to the development of our Scholars. Therefore, as part of our commitment to educating the youth at Oak Hill Youth Center, we have designed a Saturday School program to supplement the learning that takes place during the weekday academic schedule.
