Mission Statement

Each year almost 10,000 visitors come to the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary to participate in educational and research programs. The Sanctuary has three primary goals:

To Provide Environmental Education Opportunities

To Conduct Ecological Research

To Conserve Jug Bay's Unique Ecosystem

Description

The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary consists of more than 1600 acres of tidal freshwater wetlands, forests, meadows and fields along the Patuxent River. The sanctuary is located in southern Anne Arundel County, less than 30 miles from Washington D.C., Prince Frederick, and Annapolis. The wetlands, with large stands of aquatic plants, are home to many birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals.
