Mission Statement

Our primary mission at AARF HUMANE SANCTUARY is to provide a voice on behalf of our noble displaced and discarded friends; to be advocates for the Akitas and other dogs, whether that means education (human), training (dog and human), evaluation (both), rescue, boarding, veterinary care (dogs), screening (both), and placement (dogs).

Description

The facility is located in Kansas at the far southeast tip of Osage County outside of Melvern. The AARF Sanctuary inhabits approximately 10 acres of a total of 81 acres of private property, where I, Susan Long, live on-site. The dog runs are outdoors with dog houses, food and water bowls, toys, etc. in each. Most runs are between 5' to 6' by 30' long. All are around a heavely treed area for shade and wind breaks. There are presently 23 rescue dogs however the majority are senior and some with special needs, still available for adoption. The food is prepared with fat scraps donated by a local restaurant and mixed with cooked rice and donated kibble or purchased kibble. They are fed twice a day. In keeping with our Mission Statement, we are a no kill facility, unless or until the quality of life is no more.
