Mission Statement

Our mission is to stimulate, inspire, illuminate and celebrate our common humanity through the shared experience of live, professional theatre. We are committed to producing a wide range of compelling, well-crafted plays and musicals that entertain and enrich our audience?s imagination, take them on a rewarding emotional journey, and nourish a lifelong passion for great theatre.

Description

The Colony has evolved from a small local ensemble into an award winning, nationally-recognized cultural institution, and was named three years in a row as one of the ?25 Notable American Theatres? in Encyclopedia Britannica?s Almanac. Five years ago, The Colony moved into a state-of-the-art facility built for us by the City of Burbank. The theatre produces five productions each year focusing on world, West Coast and Los Angeles premieres of plays and musicals. The Colony employs more than 150 theatre professionals each season and reaches over 40,000 patrons. Our preview program has brought theatre to senior citizens and lower-income households through Joslyn Adult Center and the Salvation Army. Combined fundraising through our productions raised over $15,000 for the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Officer Pavelka Memorial Fund. Our complimentary assisted listening program enables hearing-impaired patrons to enjoy shows, and our audio-description program enables vision-impaired patrons to ?see? plays just like anyone else. Our student usher program enables middle and high-school students to see plays and musicals for free?tapping into future generations of arts patrons.
