Mission Statement
WAIF's mission is to create a community in which animals are treated with compassion and respect, and where no companion animals go unwanted.
Description
WAIF is a Washington non-profit corporation founded in 1990. WAIF serves the Whidbey Island community with programs for animals and people supported by voluntary donations of time, money and labor.
WAIF operates with a life-saving philosophy (where no animal is euthanized for space needs or time limits) providing safe harbor for Whidbey Island's stray and surrendered dogs and cats. In addition to shelters in Coupeville and Oak Harbor, WAIF also operates Cat Adoption Centers in Oak Harbor and Freeland.
WAIF's retail centers - two thrift stores in Oak Harbor and Freeland and a material reclamation center in Coupeville - provide a large portion of the funding it takes to maintain the Island's homeless companion animal population until they find forever homes.
